Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf re-elected as Iran's Parliament Speaker, solidifying his role amid political tensions and foreign policy divides.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has been re-elected as Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, securing 235 votes in a session marked by political tensions. His closest rival, hardliner Mohammad Taghi Naghdi Ali, received 29 votes, while another legislator, Othman Salari, garnered 7 votes. Five blank votes were also recorded, according to Isna news agency.

Ghalibaf’s re-election comes as Iran engages in indirect talks with the US and faces internal divisions over foreign policy. A former IRGC commander and Tehran mayor, Ghalibaf has emerged as a key diplomatic and political figure, recently leading Iran’s delegation in face-to-face talks with Washington in Islamabad.

His leadership is seen as a pragmatic approach amid regional conflicts and sanctions, though hardline factions remain skeptical of any deal with the US. Ghalibaf’s re-election strengthens his role as a central power broker in Iran’s conservative establishment.
