Revised Academic Calendar Sees Shorter Summer Holidays for CBSE Students Across Oman

Indian curriculum schools across the Sultanate of Oman have modified their academic calendars for the 2026 school year, resulting in shorter summer vacations for students. The updated schedules, in line with guidelines from the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman, will see summer breaks reduced by roughly 10 to 15 days compared with previous years.

One circular issued by Indian School Muscat outlines the revised vacation dates, with the summer holiday for students in Classes IX to XII running from May 31 to July 11, 2026, and for Balvatika to Class VIII students from May 31 to July 19, 2026.

Under the new calendar, the total length of the summer break has decreased from about 50 days to around 40 days, a revision that reflects efforts to balance academic rigor with the overall school year structure.

Schools following the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum, such as Indian School Muscat and other affiliated institutions, will also observe a winter break scheduled from December 20, 2026, to January 2, 2027, for students from Balvatika through Class XII.

The change comes as part of a broader alignment under the board’s directives, emphasizing uniformity in school operations and calendar planning among Indian educational institutions in Oman. Administrators say the revision ensures that academic requirements are met without unduly extending the overall school year.

Parents and students are adjusting plans accordingly as they prepare for the revised schedule, which shortens holiday time but aims to provide a consistent academic rhythm across schools.

As Indian expat families continue to navigate life in Oman, school calendar changes like this reflect ongoing efforts to standardize educational timelines while balancing cultural expectations, exam preparation, and family needs.
