Mwasalat Halts Key Muscat and Intercity Routes Amid Severe Weather Alerts; Masirah Ferry Service Remains Operational

In response to severe weather alerts issued by relevant authorities, Mwasalat, Oman's national public transport operator, has announced the suspension of several city and intercity bus services effective Thursday, March 26, 2026.

The decision was made to prioritize the safety of passengers and ensure the provision of secure and comfortable transportation during the adverse conditions.

The suspension affects a significant portion of the network, impacting both daily commuters and long-distance travelers.

Suspended City Services

Within the Muscat Governorate, the following city routes have been temporarily halted:

  • Route 6: Connecting Al Khoud, Sultan Qaboos University, and Al Khoud.
  • Route 7: Linking Al Mabelah, Al Khoud, and Burj Al Sahwa.
  • Route 9: Serving the corridor between Al Athaiba, Al Ansab, and the Misfah Industrial Area.
  • Route 10: Operating between Al Mabelah, Seeb Souq, and Burj Al Sahwa.

Intercity Routes Grounded

The disruption extends beyond the capital, with major intercity connections suspended for the day. Travelers planning to move between Muscat and other governorates should note the following cancellations:

  • Route 52: Muscat to Duqm.
  • Route 53: Muscat to Ibri and Buraimi.
  • Route 103: Muscat to Haima and Duqm.

Ferry Services Continue

Despite the grounding of bus services, Mwasalat confirmed that the Shannah to Masirah ferry route will continue to operate as scheduled. This ensures that maritime connectivity remains intact for residents and travelers heading to the island governorate.

Monitoring and Future Updates

Mwasalat emphasized that the resumption of "City" and "Intercity" services is contingent upon the evolution of weather conditions. The operator is coordinating closely with relevant authorities to evaluate the situation continuously.

Passengers are advised to stay tuned for updates. In the event that further directives are issued regarding the suspension or resumption of specific routes, the Mwasalat Contact Center will notify passengers directly. Travelers are encouraged to check official channels before heading to bus stations to avoid unnecessary delays.

This suspension comes as the region braces for a powerful low-pressure system expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across the country, mirroring similar weather-related disruptions seen in neighboring Gulf nations.
