For years there was this baffling piece of human history lying in Ethiopia and it was just a foot fossil, a really old one like 3.4 million years old. Scientists knew it was an ancient human relative but they couldn't figure out which one because this foot had a grasping toe like an ape. It was found in the same area as Lucy's species, you know Australopithecus afarensis, but it clearly walked differently and that was a huge puzzle.
