Six Killed as Heavy Rains Lash Oman
Civil Defence teams conduct massive rescue operation amid flash floods across multiple governorates.
Heavy rains and flash floods sweeping across several Omani governorates have claimed six lives, with authorities continuing rescue operations and urging citizens and residents to remain cautious amid unstable weather conditions.
The fatalities occurred in the Wilayats of Barka and Al Maawil in South Al Batinah governorate, and tragically included a child. More than 30 people were rescued during the emergency response operations.
The severe weather was triggered by a low-pressure system that brought thunderstorms, strong winds, and widespread rainfall and destruction across several governorates, including Muscat. The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre has reiterated warnings against crossing flooded wadis and low-lying roads, stressing that most fatalities occur when drivers underestimate fast-moving water.

Due to the prevailing unstable weather conditions and flash floods, the Ministry of Labour has urged government entities and private sector establishments to switch to remote work on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, wherever possible. The move aims to ensure public safety as heavy rains continue to affect several governorates, with the exception of Al Wusta and Dhofar.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the weather system moves through the region. Emergency services remain on high alert for additional rescue operations as rainfall persists across affected areas.
