'The Voice of Hind Rajab' Secures a BAFTA Nomination
Kaouther Ben Hania’s powerful film inspired by a Palestinian child’s final moments gains international recognition at the 2026 BAFTA Awards.
“The Voice of Hind Rajab,” a film inspired by the final moments of a six-year-old Palestinian girl killed by the Israeli army, has secured a nomination at the 2026 BAFTA Awards in the Best Film Not in the English Language category.
Directed by acclaimed Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, the film is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Fund and recounts the harrowing story of Hind Rajab, who was fleeing the Israeli military in Gaza City with six relatives last year when their vehicle came under fire.
The film draws from Hind’s desperate phone calls with the Red Crescent rescue service, recordings that later circulated globally and sparked widespread international outrage.
The category also includes “It Was Just an Accident,” directed by renowned Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. The Cannes Palme d’Or-winning political thriller follows a former prisoner who kidnaps the man he believes tortured him, forcing a group of dissidents to confront questions of revenge and forgiveness.
The BAFTA nomination further cements “The Voice of Hind Rajab” as one of the most impactful international films of the year, spotlighting powerful storytelling rooted in real-world events and human tragedy.
