It's been scorching this summer, and the heat's doing something rather strange in north Wales: it's bringing a drowned village back to the surface.


Down at Llyn Celyn, the reservoir that swallowed Capel Celyn back in 1965, the water's dropped low enough that you can see roads, walls and tree stumps poking through the mud at the edges. It looks dramatic in photos, and people love sharing them every time it happens, but don't go expecting a perfectly preserved Welsh village rising out of the lake like something from a fairy tale. What's left is fragments. The real story, the one that actually matters, is why that village ended up under there in the first place.
