Al Mughsail Road & Bridge to Open on This Date
Al Mughsail Road and Bridge Nears Completion
The Al Mughsail Road and Bridge construction project in the Wilayat of Salalah has reached an advanced stage, with completion reported at 85 percent. Authorities have confirmed that the new infrastructure is scheduled to open to traffic in early July 2026, promising to significantly boost connectivity within the Dhofar Governorate.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shammakhi, highlighted the project as a vital initiative that received special attention from the Ministry. He emphasized its qualitative contribution to the regional road network, noting that the structure is designed to harmonize engineering functionality with aesthetic elements that complement nearby tourist landmarks such as Marneef Cave and the natural fountains of Al Mughsail Beach.
The infrastructure features a concrete bridge stretching approximately 500 meters in length. It is supported by 20 pillars and two side abutments that rise 12 meters high. To facilitate smoother traffic flow and improve access to popular sites including the Al Mughsail waterfront, the design incorporates an underground tunnel alongside the main roadway.
Beyond the primary transport routes, the project includes several amenities designed for public use and safety. These additions consist of designated roadside parking areas and a lighted walkway varying in width from 2 to 7 meters.

In adherence to the Sultanate of Oman's Road Design Manual, the road is equipped with comprehensive traffic safety requirements, including concrete and metal barriers, directional signage, and warning markings.
The Al Mughsail project is part of a broader effort by the Ministry to integrate innovative technologies into construction across Oman. Eng. Al Shammakhi noted that recent initiatives have adopted solutions focused on environmental sustainability and green mobility, such as asphalt recycling to minimize waste and the installation of solar panels to reduce operational costs and carbon footprints.
Furthermore, the Ministry is expanding the use of remote-controlled equipment in paving operations, including smart asphalt technology currently applied in the dualisation project of Sultan Said bin Taimour Road in Dhofar. Advanced techniques are also being utilized to control dust during construction, thereby enhancing execution efficiency and worker safety. These modern approaches reflect a commitment to aligning local transport development with global best practices and sustainable development goals.
