Heat Advisory Issued as Temperatures Soar Across Oman
Oman battles extreme 48°C temperatures, CAA provides safety tips and debunks misinformation amid ongoing heatwave.
Oman is currently enduring scorching summer conditions, with temperatures reaching a blistering 48°C in several regions across the Sultanate on Tuesday. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued urgent advisories urging residents to take strict precautions against the intense heat.
In a weather update released Tuesday, the CAA confirmed that the highest temperature of 48°C was recorded in Al Khaburah, Al Suwaiq, Wadi Al Maawil, and Saham. The authority attributed the extreme heat to the influence of an upper-level high-pressure system affecting the region, reinforced by dry northwesterly winds and other atmospheric factors. A weather graphic released by the CAA illustrated how the interaction between this upper-air high-pressure system and a surface thermal low created conditions favorable for such extreme temperatures across Oman and neighboring areas.
Public Safety Advisories
With the Sultanate entering one of the hottest periods of the year, the CAA has strongly urged the public to limit outdoor activities, particularly during the afternoon hours when temperatures typically peak. Residents are advised to ensure adequate fluid intake to mitigate the risks of dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
The authority emphasized the importance of staying updated through official meteorological channels for the latest weather information. As part of its ongoing efforts to protect public health and safety, the CAA continues to monitor conditions closely and issue guidance tailored to the current weather patterns.
Debunking Viral Rumors
The heat advisory follows a clarification issued by the CAA on Monday regarding a widely circulated social media rumor. The authority addressed claims that temperatures had reached an unprecedented 58°C in some areas of the Sultanate, stating that such figures were inaccurate.

"The circulating information has temperature readings higher than those officially recorded and published by the authority," the CAA stated. Officials stressed that the viral figures exceeded officially recorded readings and did not reflect data from their meteorological monitoring systems. The authority reiterated the critical importance of obtaining weather information solely from official sources and cautioned the public against sharing unverified reports that could mislead the community.
As the heatwave persists, authorities remain vigilant, ensuring that residents have access to accurate data and clear safety guidelines to navigate the challenging conditions.
