The national airline is considering launching a city check-in service in the Omani capital, allowing passengers to check in their luggage before even heading to Muscat International Airport. That means no more airport check-in chaos or juggling suitcases at the last minute.
In a recent interview with Times of Oman, Oman Air CEO Con Korfiatis confirmed the plan is in the trial stage:
"We are actually looking to trial that, to see how it goes... We haven’t decided finally, but we are looking to trial it and see how it goes. And if it works and there’s big demand for it, then we can invest more in it."
Korfiatis also hinted at a potential launch by the end of the year, though he acknowledged Muscat’s small size might impact demand.
“Some of the city offices tend to work where people travel long distances to the airport… We don’t really have a lot of that dynamic here.”
Smooth Travel Is the Goal
The concept is simple: travelers can check in early, drop off their bags, and head straight to immigration once they arrive at the airport. It's part of a growing trend in aviation to make flying more seamless — especially for busy city-goers or travelers heading out during peak seasons.
In fact, Oman Air recently rolled out a similar service in Salalah for the popular khareef season. Partnering with Transom Handling, the new “Maraheb” city check-in service lets passengers complete all travel procedures ahead of time at Salalah Gardens Mall.
The service has already been a hit in the southern city, offering a queue-free, stress-free start to vacations during one of the region’s busiest travel periods.
So will Muscat get the same travel glow-up? The answer should land before 2026.
