Oman will soon be home to the world's largest botanical garden, showcasing Oman's plant diversity in an area stretching over 4.2 square kilometres.

The project is due to start on-site soon, and it can be enjoyed by residents and tourists for generations to come. However, an exact timeframe has been not disclosed.

Located in the foothills of Hajar Mountains, the site was chosen because of its natural rock formations, ridges and ravines.

Upon completion, it is expected to include over 1,407 species of local plants.

It will feature eight of the varied habitats found in Oman, with all of the plants and animals featured in the gardens sourced locally.
