Oman’s Ahmed Al Hosani captures top honour in Doha for his powerful photo “Escape”

In a landmark moment for regional arts, Omani photographer Ahmed Al Hosani has clinched first place in the “Emotions” category of the inaugural Doha Photography Award 2025. His winning image, titled “Escape”, stood out among an extremely competitive field and elevated his name on the global photography stage.

The award event drew participation from a truly global pool: 5,206 photographers representing 101 countries submitted a total of 27,663 images across six distinct categories — Qatar, Colours, Story, Black & White, Emotions and Junior.
In this context, Al Hosani’s achievement offers a powerful affirmation of Omani creative talent in the wider international visual arts scene.

His photograph “Escape” resonated with the judges for its emotional depth and ability to convey human feeling through visual expression. The “Emotions” category, by design, honours photographers who capture raw and evocative sentiment — and Al Hosani’s success signals both personal excellence and relevance.

By emerging victorious in this major competition, Al Hosani not only brings prestige to his own portfolio but also shines a spotlight on the Sultanate of Oman as a source of world-class photographic storytelling. Given the scale and diversity of entries, winning top honours in any category is a remarkable feat.

With this award now part of his professional narrative, Al Hosani is poised for further opportunities — exhibitions, commissions and collaborations — and his success will likely inspire other creatives in the Gulf and beyond to pursue visual storytelling at the highest level.
