Oman’s Khareef Dhofar Season has been awarded the “Leading Tourism Destination of 2025” at the Arab Tourism and Travel Awards in London, organised by the Arab London Foundation.
This accolade highlights the monsoon-driven celebration in the southern Dhofar Governorate as a standout destination on the global tourism map.
Officials from Oman’s tourism authorities noted that the award reflects a structured and sustainable approach to destination management, rather than just popularity. The recognition was based on qualitative indicators such as international visitor growth, a variety of tourism activities, and enhanced infrastructure in the region.
Visitor statistics and infrastructure development played a key role in securing the award. Over one million visitors were reported in Dhofar by the end of August 2025. New hotel developments increased room capacity in the governorate, supporting its goal to develop year-round tourism.
The Khareef Season, running from June to September, transforms Dhofar into a region of mist-shrouded mountains, lush valleys, and scenic coastal areas, providing a stark contrast to much of the Gulf’s dry summer. The combination of natural beauty, cultural events, and heritage tours makes Khareef a unique destination in both regional and international tourism.
The award also recognises the integrated efforts of the government, private sector, and local communities in promoting sustainable tourism. Khareef now serves as a model destination prioritising genuine visitor experiences, environmental protection, and inclusive growth.
Being crowned the “Leading Tourism Destination of 2025” is expected to boost Oman’s tourism profile and reinforce Dhofar’s brand as a must-visit destination. The success of the Khareef Season underscores how strategic planning, infrastructure investment, and environmental stewardship can elevate a seasonal natural phenomenon into an internationally acclaimed tourism attraction.
