The Camel Racing Competition 2025 in Barka Concludes
Competitive spirit and tradition shine at Al Fuleij as top camels and their owners secure victory in the 2025 Barka camel racing finale.
The highly anticipated 2025 Camel Racing Competition concluded with fierce competition and local fanfare at the Al Fuleij racecourse in the Wilayat of Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate, on December 25, 2025.
The event’s finale was held under the auspices of Sheikh Said Saud Al Ghufaili, Chairman of the Oman Camel Racing Association, drawing crowds of enthusiasts and competitors alike.
Organised by the Royal Court Affairs and represented by the Royal Camel Corps, the closing day featured nine thrilling 8-kilometre races, each showcasing some of the best six-year-old racing camels from across the region. The races were divided into three key segments: Al Thanaya (mixed male and female), Al Hawl (female only), and Al Zamoul (male only).
Highlights from the Races
In the Al Thanaya segment, four rounds saw competitive performances:

Munawah, owned by the Royal Camel Corps and coached by Hamad bin Mohammed Al Wahaibi, claimed first place in the opening round.

Dhann impressed in the second.

A’Shamkha, representing Saif bin Mubarak Al Habsi, took top honors in round three.

Mhaidh, owned by Mohammed bin Hamad Al Mashaikhi, rounded out the segment with a win in the fourth.
In the Al Hawl races focus exclusively on female camels:

Tasreeh, another Royal Camel Corps entry coached by Hamad bin Mohammed Al Wahaibi, led the first round.

Al Wathba, owned by Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, triumphed in the second.

Al Nashmiya, from the Al Bashayer Camels association and coached by Abdullah bin Tuwaresh Al Wahaibi, won the third round.

Nashba, representing Sultan bin Abdullah Al Khatri, secured the final victory in this segment.
The sole Al Zamoul event saw Mahdi, owned by Jaber bin Said Al Mubaihsi, take first place in the male-only category, capping off the day’s series of exciting finishes.

Camel racing remains a treasured part of Omani cultural heritage, blending sport with tradition and community celebration. This year’s competition at Barka not only highlighted athletic prowess but also underscored the profound connection between Omani society and its rich cultural heritage.
