Generation X was brought up in an era where independence was anticipated and control was less than the current norms. Having been born around the middle of the 1960s or at the beginning of the 1980s, most representatives of this generation grew up in an environment that had distinct boundaries and realistic expectations. Little or no negotiations were made on these rules. They were cultural standards, which had responsibility, resilience, and respect as top priorities. In retrospect, such guidelines show how initial habits would affect work ethic and decision making at a later age.
