To mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, Pakistan’s Embassy in Oman, together with the local Pakistani community, hosted a colorful Mango Festival at the InterCity Hotel in Muscat.
The festival offered a vibrant blend of cultural pride and community togetherness, and, after years of absence, this beloved event made a spirited return.
The gathering was elevated by the presence of Syed Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former captain of Pakistan’s national cricket team, who joined the celebrations as a guest of honor. Alongside him were well-known Pakistani media figures—Syed Talat Hussain and Asma Sherazi, reflecting the event’s significance in bringing Pakistani heritage to the forefront.
Ambassador Dr. Naveed Safdar Bukhari warmly welcomed attendees, emphasizing the symbolic duality of the festival: celebrating freedom and unity—and sharing “the sweetness” of Pakistani mangoes, known globally as the “King of Fruits.” He highlighted the fruit’s export legacy, referencing its popularity in markets like the United States and Western countries.
Joining them was His Excellency Juma Al Redha, former Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), who served as the chief guest. The event also included a showcase video, presenting the cultivation and harvest process of these celebrated mangoes, and live performances, including flute renditions of Pakistani national songs by local artist Farhan.
The festival attracted a diverse audience: senior Omani dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, and a large contingent from the Pakistani community. Through this festival, attendees not only celebrated national pride but also strengthened cultural bonds between Pakistan and Oman.
