Oman Reaffirms Cooperation on Strait of Hormuz Navigation

Oman's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that it is keeping up transparent and neutral cooperation with all sides to help restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The ministry said Oman remains committed to international maritime law as tensions rise between Washington and Tehran over the key shipping route.

Oman's Neutral Diplomatic Stance

In its statement, the Foreign Ministry said Oman continues its "transparent and neutral cooperation" with all parties that want to restore safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. It added that the Sultanate is fully committed to its duties under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

US-Iran Tensions Over the Strait of Hormuz

The statement comes as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to rise over the strategic waterway. Both sides have exchanged attacks despite a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding meant to end the conflict. US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Washington would likely take control of operations in the strait and expects other countries to pay for protecting the important shipping lane. Iran's military said it will not allow the US to "interfere" in the management of the strait.

Oman Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

Oman also condemned missile attacks by Yemen's Houthi group targeting Saudi Arabia. It expressed solidarity with Riyadh and its efforts "to safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability." Saudi air defenses intercepted ballistic missiles launched from Yemen on Monday. The attack came hours after Yemen's Defense Ministry said its forces struck the Sanaa airport runway, after claiming the Houthis blocked Yemeni flights from landing while allowing an Iranian plane to land "in violation of the Yemeni territory."
