His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has conferred Oman’s highest civilian honour, the Order of Oman (First Class), on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening the long-standing relationship between India and Oman.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in Muscat, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Modi, who is on a two-day state visit to Oman — the final leg of a broader three-nation tour that included Jordan and Ethiopia — expressed his gratitude for the prestigious honour. The award underscores the deep historical ties and mutual respect between the two nations, which this year marks 70 years of diplomatic relations.
The Order of Oman, bestowed by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, is reserved for distinguished global leaders who have made remarkable contributions to international diplomacy and cooperation. It adds to more than 28 international honours conferred on Prime Minister Modi over his tenure, including recent recognitions from Ethiopia and Kuwait.
The award ceremony also provided a platform for both leaders to discuss strengthening strategic collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, energy, defence, and culture. Among key developments during the visit was the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Oman, aimed at boosting economic cooperation and expanding bilateral opportunities.
In response to receiving the honour, Modi described it as a tribute to the enduring friendship and shared history between the Indian and Omani peoples. The accolade reflects both nations’ commitment to advancing mutual interests and navigating future challenges together.
Officials from both countries highlighted the significance of the milestone visit, noting that it sets the tone for even deeper engagement in the years ahead as India and Oman continue to strengthen their strategic partnership on the global stage.
