Muttrah Cable Car Track to be Completed in Q1 of 2026

Work on the highly anticipated Muttrah Cable Car project is progressing steadily and remains on track for completion in the first quarter of 2026, officials confirmed. Once finished, the cable car system is expected to offer visitors dramatic panoramic views of the historic Muttrah district and the surrounding landscapes, enhancing Oman's tourism infrastructure.

The 3‑kilometer cable car line will connect multiple stations, including Hay Al Ward, Al Raya Mountain Peak and Muttrah Port, forming a scenic route that celebrates both the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region.

Boosting Tourism and Visitor Experience

Developed in collaboration with Swiss cable transport specialist Bartholet, the Muttrah Cable Car is designed to become a major landmark attraction in Muscat. The system will feature 18 cabins, each with the capacity to carry eight passengers, and is projected to serve around 4 million passengers annually once operational.

Officials said the cable car will not only offer unmatched views over the Muttrah Corniche, port and Gulf of Oman, but also create new opportunities for tourism‑related activities, commerce and hospitality services across the governorate.

The project is aligned with broader national objectives to diversify Oman’s economic base and bolster the tourism sector in line with Oman Vision 2040. Strategic initiatives under the Vision aim to develop world‑class tourist destinations and enhance the quality of visitor experiences.

A New Icon for Muscat

Local authorities and tourism stakeholders have expressed confidence that the cable car will quickly become one of Muscat’s most iconic attractions, complementing other heritage and leisure offerings in Muttrah, such as the Corniche, souq and forts.

With the project entering its final stages, anticipation is building among residents and international visitors alike for an immersive aerial journey that showcases Oman’s landscape and rich cultural tapestry.

Completion by the end of Q1 2026 will mark a significant milestone in the development of Oman’s tourism infrastructure, reinforcing Muscat’s reputation as a must‑visit destination in the Gulf region.
