The Sultanate of Oman is gearing up to host the Middle East Championship “Experience Oman Ironman 70.3 – Muscat” this weekend, as elite and amateur endurance athletes descend on the capital for one of the region’s most demanding triathlon events. The championship will take place from February 13 to 14, 2026, with races centred around Qurum Beach and key city routes.
Organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in collaboration with the Middle East International Events Foundation, the event marks a significant milestone for Oman’s sporting calendar and sports tourism ambitions.
The Ironman 70.3 format covers a total of 70.3 miles (113 km) across three disciplines: a 1.9 km open-water swim in the warm waters of the Sea of Oman, a 90 km cycling leg that showcases coastal and urban landscapes, and a 21.1 km half marathon run along scenic stretches of Muscat. Competitors will be tested on endurance, speed and strategy as they tackle each segment of the race.
In addition to the core triathlon, organisers have planned family-friendly activities and ancillary events designed to turn the weekend into an immersive sports festival. These include an integrated fan zone, fun runs for children and interactive recreational activities for visitors of all ages, helping engage the broader community and encourage an active lifestyle.
Officials say the championship not only highlights Oman’s natural beauty and warm hospitality but also aligns with broader national goals to position the country as a destination for international sporting events and adventure tourism. The global partnership between Experience Oman and the Ironman brand supports this vision through enhanced visibility in the IRONMAN Pro Series calendar and future event hosting opportunities.
As athletes prepare to compete this weekend, spectators and participants alike can expect a vibrant atmosphere, competitive racing and an opportunity to witness world-class endurance sport unfold against the backdrop of Muscat’s stunning coastline and cultural landmarks.
