International Royals and Celebrities Attend the Opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum

On a spectacular evening in Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) officially opened its doors to the world with an elegant and star-studded ceremony.

Hosted under the watch of the great Pyramids, the event brought together royals, heads of state and global celebrities to mark not only the launch of a landmark cultural institution but also a symbolic “new chapter” in Egypt’s story.

A Gathering of Global Dignitaries

Leaders and royals from across continents arrived in Cairo to witness the museum’s inauguration. Among the attendees were Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, representing the UAE’s president; Queen Rania of Jordan and her daughter Princess Salma; Oman’s Crown Prince Theyazin bin Haitham; Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa; and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah.
The guest list extended further to include Japanese royalty (Princess Akiko of Mikasa), Belgium’s King Philippe, Spain’s King Felipe VI, Denmark’s Queen Mary, Monaco’s Prince Albert and Thailand’s Princess Sirivannavari, among others.
With 79 international delegations, including 39 heads of state and government, in attendance, the event drew a high-level global audience.

A Dazzling Cultural Spectacle

The opening ceremony featured a dramatic lineup of entertainment: a musical symphony, an immersive drone and light show that visually connected the museum’s architecture with the Pyramids of Giza, and performances by celebrated Egyptian actors and dancers in pharaonic-inspired attire.
One standout moment: a custom-composed piece by Egyptian composer Hesham Nazih accompanied the proceedings, underscoring the cultural gravity of the occasion.

Per President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s remarks, the museum spans a remarkable 500,000 square metres, is set among 120,000 square metres of landscaped gardens, and overlooks the Pyramids themselves.
With a collection of more than 100,000 artefacts—half of which will be on display—this museum claims the title of the world’s largest collection devoted to a single civilisation

This is the first time the complete treasures of Tutankhamun are showcased together since the discovery of his tomb.

The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum is more than a new cultural venue — it is a bridge between ancient legacy and modern ambition. President El Sisi remarked that Egypt is “writing a new chapter in the story of this ancient nation’s present and future.”
For the global guests, it was also an opportunity to celebrate heritage diplomacy: the gathering of royalty and celebrities underlines the museum’s role as a global cultural hub, not just a national treasure.
