Indian Embassy in Muscat Celebrates 77th Republic Day
Patriotic fervor and community spirit shine as Indian national day celebrations unite expatriates and friends of India in Muscat.
The Embassy of India in Muscat celebrated India’s 77th Republic Day on Monday with a vibrant ceremony that brought together members of the Indian community and friends of India to mark the historic occasion with pride and patriotism.
The day’s official proceedings opened with a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, honoring his legacy of peace and non-violence, followed by the unfurling of the Indian national flag by Chargé d’affaires Mrs. Tavishi Behal Pandey.
Students from Indian School Muscat performed the National Anthem, adding to the patriotic atmosphere, and Ms. Pandey read excerpts from the President of India’s Republic Day address, reflecting on India’s democratic values, achievements and future aspirations.
The celebrations also featured patriotic songs by the school students, further energising the gathering and highlighting the cultural connections that bind the Indian diaspora together, even far from home.
Participants included a large turnout of Indian expatriates and local residents, symbolising the strong bonds between India and the Sultanate of Oman. The event underscored the shared values of democracy and cultural heritage as well as the vibrant spirit of community among Indians living abroad.
Republic Day, observed annually on January 26, commemorates the date in 1950 when the Constitution of India came into effect, cementing the nation’s identity as a sovereign democratic republic.
