Royal Oman Police Calls on Public to Report Sightings of Drones
Authorities call for vigilance amid heightened drone activity across the Sultanate.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a public appeal urging citizens and residents to immediately report any sightings of drones or similar aerial objects within Omani airspace or near vital facilities, local media reported Wednesday, March 4.
In an official statement, the police emphasized the importance of community cooperation in enhancing national security and public safety. Residents are asked to contact authorities via a dedicated WhatsApp number — 77720078 — and to include specific locations and, if possible, photographs of the observed objects to assist a swift response.
The ROP also cautioned against circulating or publishing any captured footage or images of such sightings, stressing that sharing unverified content could hinder ongoing security efforts.
The call for vigilance comes amid a broader regional context of increased drone activity and related precautions by Omani authorities.
Recently, Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority suspended all drone and aerial activity permits indefinitely as a safety measure, while security forces have reported interceptions and neutralizations of unauthorized drones within the country’s airspace.
Officials reiterated that public cooperation is key to maintaining security and ensuring that appropriate actions can be taken swiftly in response to any potential threats.
