President Donald Trump announced the formation of a Gaza “Board of Peace”, a central feature of the United States‑backed effort to shepherd the war‑torn Palestinian territory through its next phase of ceasefire and reconstruction efforts.
Trump unveiled the new body, which he said has officially been formed. in a post on his social media platform, describing it as a key component of the peace plan designed to end years of conflict between Israel and Hamas. The names of the board’s members are expected to be announced shortly, the president said, without releasing further details.
The Gaza Board of Peace is framed as part of Phase Two of the US‑led plan following an initial ceasefire that helped reduce large‑scale hostilities in late 2025. Under this next stage, a newly appointed Palestinian technocratic administration, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, will oversee daily governance of the territory during its transitional period. That body will operate under the board’s supervision.
As chairman of the board, Trump said the group will help guide post‑war administration and reconstruction efforts, with the goal of fostering stability and rebuilding infrastructure in Gaza. The broader plan includes pushing for full demilitarisation of Hamas, a key and contentious element of the strategy.
While details remain sparse, the announcement has drawn attention from international mediators involved in the peace process, including Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, which have played roles in negotiating earlier ceasefire terms. The United Nations has likewise acknowledged the effort and the planned transitional governance framework.
However, the initiative comes amid sustained tensions on the ground, with continued debate over the ceasefire’s durability, unresolved security issues, and humanitarian concerns in Gaza. Some Palestinian factions have expressed mixed reactions, underscoring the complexity of implementing long‑term peace solutions.
Trump has characterised the Board of Peace as “the greatest and most prestigious” body ever assembled, signalling an ambitious diplomatic push by the United States. As the peace plan moves forward, global and regional actors will be watching closely how the board’s composition and mandate develop in the coming weeks.
