75% of Buildings to Have Fiber Optics by 2025

Oman, which has one of the highest mobile penetration rates in the world, is now aiming to have fibre optics in at least 75% of its buildings by 2025.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) revealed details of plans for infrastructure expansion in the telecommunications sector, improving service quality, upgrading basic indicators for evaluating the quality and prices of telecommunications services in Oman, and reviewing investments over the last five years at a meeting on Sunday.

By 2025, TRA also plans to have 85% of buildings covered by fixed broadband networks, and 100% of stations supporting fourth and fifth generation networks, according to an executive program.

According to the Network Readiness Index (NRI) 2022, released by the Washington DC-based think tank Portulans Institute, Oman is ranked fourth in the Arab world.
