On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Oman’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, is slated to attend the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo this Saturday.
The participation of Sayyid Theyazin underscores Oman’s commitment to fostering cultural and heritage links within the Arab region.
Accompanying him will be a high-level Omani delegation including the Minister of Heritage & Tourism, the Under-Secretary of Culture within the Ministry of Culture, Sports & Youth, the Secretary General of Oman’s National Museum, and the Sultanate’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the Giza pyramids, is poised to become one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to a single civilization. While it has run through delay after delay, the opening marks a major milestone for Egypt’s cultural diplomacy and tourism sector.
Sayyid Theyazin’s attendance reflects both the significance of the event and the cultural bridge-building between Oman and Egypt. His presence alongside key Omani heritage and cultural officials signals a shared interest in elevating Arab heritage on a global stage.
From Oman’s perspective, this event offers a unique platform: it highlights the Sultanate’s active role in regional cultural networks, enhances visibility in international heritage forums, and strengthens bilateral ties with Egypt through soft power and cultural exchange.
For Egypt, hosting dignitaries such as the Omani delegation reinforces the GEM’s standing as not only a national landmark but a regional hub for culture and heritage. The museum’s unveiling is expected to draw global attention and visitors, contributing to the country’s tourism ambitions.
