Oman Cancer Association Opens Mobile Breast Screening Unit
Free early breast cancer screening services now available across Dhofar wilayats
The Oman Cancer Association branch in Dhofar Governorate opened the mobile screening unit for early breast cancer detection on Wednesday at Al Saada Health Centre in Salalah, under the theme "Rest Assured with Early Screening."
This step is part of ongoing efforts to support early detection and improve the chances of successful treatment.
The initiative also aims to spread awareness about breast cancer prevention and highlight the importance of early screening. The mobile unit will provide screening services for women across different wilayats in Dhofar Governorate.
The opening programme included a presentation about the screening unit equipment, an awareness corner on the importance of early breast cancer detection, and recognition of the organisations and individuals who supported the initiative.
Zain Al Abidin Ali Al Ajeeli, Acting Chairman of the Oman Cancer Association branch in Dhofar Governorate, said bringing the mobile screening unit to the governorate during the Khareef season is an annual effort, reflecting the association’s commitment to early breast cancer detection.
He said the unit is equipped with a mammogram machine, serves women aged 40 and above, and offers services free of charge to citizens, residents, and visitors.
He added that the association is keen to take the unit to different wilayats in the governorate through a field programme. In previous years, it visited Taqah, Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands, Thumrait, and Al Mazyona. This year, it was in Mirbat for two weeks and is now providing services at Al Saada Health Centre in Salalah until 28 August.
Al Ajeeli said the unit has been visiting Dhofar Governorate every year since 2010 without interruption. He also thanked the Oman Cancer Association in Muscat for its support in bringing the unit to Dhofar, as well as Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) for its exclusive support for the initiative.
He noted that in 2025, the unit screened 413 women aged 40 and above, while 371 women under 40 received consultation and health education. The total number of beneficiaries reached 784.
