Oman’s moon sighting committee confirmed that the crescent was not sighted on the evening of August 23.

As a result, August 24 will mark the final day of the Islamic month of Safar, while the new month of Rabi’ al-Awwal will officially begin on August 25.

The Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday is commemorated on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal, which means this year’s celebration in Oman will fall on Friday, September 5.

Earlier, authorities in Kuwait announced a public holiday for government offices and ministries on Thursday, September 4 to mark the occasion.

Islamic months are determined by the lunar calendar, lasting 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. Each month, committees meet on the 29th night to observe the sky and declare the start of the next month.
