Oman Plans to Introduce 79% Electric Vehicles by 2035

Oman plans to introduce 79% electric vehicles by 2035 in the country in order to align with its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. 

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology revealed these targets during their annual meeting, which was held on Wednesday to discuss plans for 2023. 

Minister of Transport, Communications and Information H.E. Said bin Hamoud bin Said al Ma’awali shared that the ministry is working with car dealers to achieve this target of introducing 79% electric vehicles in Oman by 2035. 

The Minister discussed other things including the cost of constructing new roads and repairing roads, which will be more than RO 1 billion in 2023. Furthermore, he shared that tenders worth RO 230 million were awarded in 2022, therefore eight strategic projects will be started and completed in 2023. 

H.E. Ma’awali explained how the ministry is also working to improve import and export through Oman ports and to digitize more than 200 government services.
