Oman Police Arrest Drivers for Illegal Passenger Transport

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested a number of drivers in Al Wusta Governorate for illegally transporting passengers, as part of an ongoing nationwide campaign to curb unsafe and unauthorised transport activities.

In an official statement, the ROP confirmed that officers intercepted several private vehicles being used to carry passengers without proper licences — a violation that poses significant risks to public safety. Legal action has been taken against those involved.

“These practices not only endanger lives but also undermine the integrity of the transport system and road safety standards,” the police statement read.

Authorities emphasised that private vehicles are neither designed nor approved for commercial passenger use. The ROP urged all motorists to comply with transport regulations and ensure vehicles are used strictly for their intended purposes.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public safety and enforcing road laws across the Sultanate, warning that similar violations will result in strict penalties.
