Four Omani Landmarks Added to Islamic World Heritage List

Big cultural win for Oman.

Four major historical sites in Oman have officially been added to the Islamic World Heritage List during the 13th session of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) Heritage Committee in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The country was represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism at the session, where 117 cultural sites from 16 Islamic nations were added to the list.

The Four Sites That Made the List

Here’s what earned the spotlight:

  • Al Hazm Fort

  • Jabreen Castle

  • Harat Al Sibani

  • Harat Al Yaman

Al Hazm Fort and Jabreen Castle stand out as strong examples of Omani defensive and administrative architecture, showing off the country’s engineering skills from centuries ago.

Meanwhile, Harat Al Sibani and Harat Al Yaman offer a look into traditional Omani town planning and how communities once lived and evolved.

Why This Matters

Getting on the Islamic World Heritage List isn’t just about prestige. It puts Oman’s cultural landmarks on a bigger global stage and strengthens efforts to preserve them for future generations.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism says the recognition reflects its ongoing commitment to protecting the country’s cultural identity.

For heritage lovers, travel enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates history with serious character, this is a proud moment for Oman.
