Oman & UK Officially Launch 'The Jewel of Arabia' Expedition

The Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom have officially launched the exciting new expedition project “Oman: The Jewel of Arabia” in London. The event was graced by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Oman’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, and His Royal Highness Prince William, Prince of Wales.

Scheduled to begin in January 2025, the expedition will cover a 30-day journey, starting from Ras Al Hadd in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, and ending in the city of Salalah in the Dhofar Governorate. The trip will trace a historic route, closely following the ancient trade paths once used by explorers.

Unique Cultural Exchange Between Oman and the UK

Along the way, the participants will engage in activities designed to develop their skills in exploration, heritage preservation, and sustainable environmental practices.

Honoring Historical Exploration

The expedition also serves as a tribute to British explorer Bertram Thomas, who in 1928 became the first European to cross the Rub' Al Khali desert (The Empty Quarter). His journey followed ancient Omani trade routes, paving the way for future explorers. The project aims to revive this historical connection while promoting the values of sustainability and cultural appreciation.

By combining adventure with education, “Oman: The Jewel of Arabia” seeks to inspire the next generation of explorers and global citizens.
