Crime Rates Surge Across Muscat Governorate

Muscat Governorate has recorded the highest number of crime cases in Oman, according to the latest Public Prosecution report. With a staggering 20,852 cases, Muscat tops the list, followed by North Al Batinah Governorate with 7,500 cases and Dhofar Governorate with 4,457 cases.

Where Do Most Cases Come From?

The majority of cases—32,856—were reported by the Royal Oman Police, highlighting law enforcement's active role in crime reporting. Additionally, 5,757 cases were submitted through the Public Prosecution's e-services portal, and 4,142 cases were referred by the Ministry of Labour.

The report also highlights the five most prevalent crimes in Oman this year:

  • Labour law violations: 12,407 cases

  • Cheque-related crimes: 9,699 cases

  • Foreign residency law violations: 9,154 cases

  • Fraud-related crimes: 5,343 cases

  • Theft and extortion crimes: Significant but unspecified number
