Oman Enforces Midday Breaks to Protect Outdoor Workers

Starting June, outdoor workers across Oman will get a mandatory midday break to protect them from extreme heat. The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has announced that working in open areas, such as construction sites, will be prohibited from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the hottest months of the year, June, July, and August.

This move is part of the “Safe Summer” campaign launched by the ministry to raise awareness around heat stress and the importance of workplace safety during summer. The campaign supports Article 16, Clause 2 of the country’s Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, which clearly states that workers must not be exposed to harsh heat conditions during the midday hours.
