Oman on Track to Become One of the World's Largest Hydrogen Exporters

A recent report released affirmed that Oman is on its way to becoming one of the largest hydrogen exporters in the world by 2030. It plans to produce more than one million tons of green hydrogen by then. 

The report was issued jointly by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the International Energy Agency (IEA), showing Oman's competitive potential as a hub for renewable energy and hydrogen.

The Gulf country has allocated an area of ​​over 50,000 square kilometres in the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar for green hydrogen projects.

Oman has also allocated 15,000 square kilometres in other governorates for clean energy projects.

Oman aims to produce about 8 million tons of green hydrogen by 2050. The investment value of the projects is expected to stand at $140 billion.

In 2022, Oman announced its commitment to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050 and began reducing fossil fuel use in its domestic energy mix.
