Oman-UAE Railway Project Ready to Enter Construction Stage

Stakeholders from Oman and the UAE signed partnership agreements on Tuesday, Apr. 23, marking the beginning of the construction of the Oman-UAE railway project Hafeet Rail. 

Oman and Etihad Rail Company launched a new brand identity for the two countries' railway project, which is now called 'Hafeet Rail'.

The partnership agreement was signed on Tuesday by Oman Rail, Etihad Rail, and the Mubadala Investment Company. 

The Oman-UAE railway project will serve various sectors in both Oman and the UAE and lead to the development of new sectors. 

The construction of the railway project will be conducted by Trojan Construction Group and Galfar Engineering and Contracting. 

The Oman-UAE Rrailway project Hafeet Rail will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80 percent because the train will have the capacity of 

300 trucks when it comes to transporting goods. 

Deputy CEO of Hafeet Rail Mohammed bin Zahran Al Mahruqi shared that the company has signed an agreement, allocating control and communication systems for the project to Siemens and HIC Corporation. 

The control system from Hafeet Rail will be developed based on the latest European Train Control System (Level 2), which will provide smooth operations in train control and communication and ensure safety. 

The railway project will stretch across 303 kilometers from Sohar to Abu Dhabi, reducing travel time to one hour and forty minutes. 

The railway project will reduce travel time between Suhar and Al Ain to forty-seven minutes. 

The train will have the capacity to carry 12,000 passengers per day. The freight trains will have the capacity to carry 250,000 containers at the start of the railway's operation.
