Twin Brothers Lose Their Lives in Drowning Incident at Oman

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Oman this week as twin brothers lost their lives in a drowning incident at one of the country’s most visited natural spots.

According to the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the incident took place on Sunday at Wadi Bani Khalid, located in the eastern part of the Sultanate. The brothers, Al Hassan Al Masoodi and Al Husain Al Masoodi, were swimming in one of the wadi’s pools when they drowned.

Wadi Bani Khalid is famous for its scenic beauty, crystal-clear water, and year-round flowing streams. It's a popular spot for both locals and tourists looking to relax or swim in nature. But the serene setting quickly turned into a scene of sorrow after the twins were pulled underwater.

The Coast Guard Police, along with nearby residents, rushed to the scene and managed to recover the bodies, the ROP confirmed.

Ongoing Drowning Concerns in Oman

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident. Despite awareness campaigns and repeated warnings from authorities, drowning cases, especially involving children, remain a serious issue in Oman.

Earlier this year in May, two young siblings aged 10 and 7 tragically drowned while swimming off a beach in the wilayat of Khabourah.

According to the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA), Oman recorded 166 drowning cases in 2023. While that’s a drop from 324 in 2022, officials say it’s still a major concern, especially during the summer holidays when families head to beaches and wadis.

Children make up the majority of drowning victims, as many are not strong swimmers and often venture into deep or fast-moving waters unsupervised.

A Reminder for Parents and Families

Authorities continue to urge parents to be extra cautious when visiting natural water sites. Children should never be left unattended, even in shallow pools, and swimming should only happen in safe, designated areas.

As the summer season approaches and more families plan trips outdoors, this tragic incident serves as a somber reminder: nature is beautiful, but it must be respected.

Stay safe, and always keep an eye on your loved ones near water.
