Oman to Build Three Dams to Control Wadi Flooding

Oman has announced plans to construct three dams in three different governorates to prevent wadi flooding in the Sultanate.

The dams will be constructed at Wadi Al Ansab in Muscat governorate, at Wadi Tahwa in South Al Sharqiyah governorate, and at Wadi Al Zuhaimi in North Al Batinah.

This step comes as His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik issued three royal decrees on Tuesday, April 11th, to build the flood protection dams.

The decrees will come into force from the date of issue in the Official Gazette.

The decrees say the concerned local authorities may acquire land necessary for the project, if needed, under Oman's Public Utility Expropriation Law.

In Oman, severe wadi flash floods have occurred repeatedly within the last 10 years causing a huge impact on human lives and properties, as wadis fill up fast and without warning during heavy thundershowers.
