Al Mughsail Road and Bridge Opened to Boost Dhofar Tourism
New road link improves traffic flow and access to key tourist sites in Salalah.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has officially opened Al Mughsail Road and Bridge in the Wilayat of Salalah. The project is part of efforts to improve Dhofar Governorate’s road network and make travel easier between wilayats and popular tourist spots, especially during the Khareef Dhofar season.
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar. He said the governorate is seeing ongoing infrastructure projects that support Oman’s development plans and improve services for citizens, residents, and visitors.
He added that Al Mughsail Road and Bridge is an important project for Dhofar. It will help improve traffic flow, make roads smoother, and provide easier access to the Wilayats of Rakhyut and Dhalkut, as well as key tourist attractions. This will support tourism, economic activity, and community development.
Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, said the opening marks the completion of the first phase of the project. The remaining works, including landscaping, visual improvements, and some structural and service works, are expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year.
He explained that the project includes a 540-metre concrete bridge built with 17 piers and two abutments, reaching a height of 12 metres. It also includes an underpass that helps traffic move smoothly to nearby tourist places, including Al Mughsail beach and Marneef Cave, known for its natural blowholes.
He added that the project also provides roadside parking areas and a pedestrian walkway with lighting, ranging from 2 to 7 metres in width. The road has also been equipped with full safety features, including concrete and metal barriers, directional signs, and warning road markings, in line with the Oman Road Design Manual standards.
