In the Sultanate of Oman, men who dress up as women in public will face a year in prison and a fine of OMR 300.

Article (266/D) of the new Omani Penal Code stipulates that “He shall be punished with imprisonment for a period of no less than a month and not more than a year, and a fine of no less than OMR 100 and not more than OMR 300 , or one of these two penalties, whoever appears in public with the appearance of women in his dress or appearance," Lawyer Salah Al-Muqbali explained to Times of Oman.

Al-Muqbali added that the judgment is new since the old penal code, which was repealed, did not specifically address the existence of a penalty for this offence, whereas the new penal code did.

It is worth noting that, for the first time in 2018, the Court of First Instance in Seeb issued a ruling in accordance with the Omani Penal Code promulgated by Royal Decree No. 7/2018, imprisoning three defendants of one of the Arab nationalities for one month and deporting them from the country after they were convicted of appearing as women in their guise, which is punishable by the text of Article (266/D) of the Omani Penal Code.
