Muscat Governorate Promotes E-Payment Service for Traffic Accident Damage

The Muscat Governorate is intensifying efforts to raise public awareness about its e-payment service for traffic accident damage, a key part of the governorate’s 2025 digital transformation plan.

The service allows individuals to settle damage costs to public property online via the unified government e-services portal, eliminating the need for in-person visits. It is designed to issue a formal clearance letter for incidents involving property such as street lighting, roads, and landscaping.

Part of Oman’s Digital Transformation

Officials say the initiative aligns with Muscat Governorate’s push to simplify municipal procedures and encourage adoption of e-services.

To qualify, applicants must submit:

  • A copy of the identity card of the person responsible for the accident or their representative
  • A Royal Oman Police damage assessment report
  • A technical report from Muscat Municipality detailing the damage

The policy applies to cases where no valid insurance exists, including exceptional situations where the responsible party was in an abnormal state at the time of the accident.

How It Works

The application process begins online, with users uploading required documents. Once reviewed and approved by municipal staff, beneficiaries are notified to complete payment before receiving their clearance letter.

Processing takes between one and five working days, depending on the completeness of submitted documents.

Applications can be lodged through the Unified Government e-Services portal or at Sanad Service centres.

Public Awareness Drive

The Muscat Governorate has conducted a public questionnaire to assess awareness of the service, followed by a digital awareness campaign on its official platforms to explain procedures and encourage adoption.

Officials note that the campaign aims to improve public engagement with e-municipal services and ensure more citizens benefit from the faster, simplified process.
