Omani SalamAir Cancels Flights to Bangladesh Due to Cyclone Mocha

The low-cost airline from Omani carrier announced the cancellation of certain flights due to the category-five storm Cyclone Mocha, which is anticipated to make landfall in Bangladesh on Saturday and Sunday.

Due to adverse weather conditions developing in the Bay of Bengal , and the closure of the airport in Chittagong by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, SalamAir flight number OV 405/406 on the 13th and 14th of May 2023 to Chittagong has been cancelled, SalamAir said in a statement.

"We request passengers to contact our 24/7 call center at +968 24272222 for further information," the statement added.

Thousands fled the west coast of the Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar and officials in neighboring Bangladesh raced to evacuate Rohingya refugees on Saturday as the most powerful cyclone in the region for over a decade churned across the Bay of Bengal.

Cyclone Mocha was packing winds of up to 220 kilometers per hour, according to India's meteorological office, which could see dangerous flooding on land around the Bay of Bengal.

There are fears it may hit the world's largest refugee camp, Cox's Bazar, where nearly one million people live.
