Chances of Snow on Mountain Peaks in Oman

The Sultanate of Oman will remain under the influence of an upper air trough until Sunday morning, January 29, 2023, according to the Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA) report.

As a result of the air trough, which will continue to influence the majority of governorates until Sunday morning, snow and hail may form on mountain peaks in the Sultanate of Oman. Over the Governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliya, and Muscat, there is a possibility of isolated clouds, rain, thundershowers, and hail.

North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, and Dhofar governorates are all projected to feel the influence over time. The northern governorates are predicted to receive the most rainfall.

What effects can be expected from the weather?

  •  The likelihood of snow and frost on high summits.
  • The Oman Sea's coastal regions will have moderate to rough seas with maximum wave heights of 2-3 meters.
  • Valleys may overflow if isolated rainfall totals of 10 to 70 mm are recorded.
  • A notable drop in temperature, especially on mountain peaks, over the majority of the governorates.

The Civil Aviation Authority urges Oman residents to exercise caution when it rains or when valleys overflow. Along with the weather bulletins and reports, they also recommended that sailors check the visibility and sea state before sailing.
