Oman Bans Outdoor Work From 12:30 to 3:30 PM During Summer

Oman’s Ministry of Labour has enforced a strict rule banning outdoor work during the hottest hours of the day—between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM—from June through August. The move aims to protect workers from heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses.

This regulation is part of Article 16, Clause 2 of the country’s Occupational Safety and Health Regulations and applies to all outdoor job sites, especially construction and other high-exposure areas.

“Safe Summer” Campaign Launched

To support the midday work stoppage, the Ministry has also kicked off its Safe Summer campaign. The awareness drive focuses on educating both companies and workers about the dangers of heat stress and the importance of following safety guidelines during peak summer hours.

Private companies are expected to fully comply with the ban to avoid penalties and, more importantly, to protect their workforce.

Doctors Warn Public to Stay Indoors

Alongside the Ministry’s move, health professionals have advised the general public to stay indoors during peak heat hours. Prolonged sun exposure can lead to serious conditions like heatstroke and dehydration, especially during the peak of summer in Oman.

Experts also recommend drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing, and avoiding physical activity outdoors between 12:30 and 3:30 PM.

Bottom Line

If you're working outside or managing outdoor teams in Oman, the rule is simple: no outdoor work from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM until the end of August. It's not just a law—it's about staying safe in the heat.
