Net Zero Centre Officially Inaugurated
One of the biggest highlights of the opening was the formal launch of the Oman Net Zero Centre, which will play a central role in guiding the country toward its 2050 net-zero emissions target. Operated under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the Centre is tasked with:
- Preparing and updating the national net-zero plan
- Overseeing the rollout of key climate-related projects
- Offering expert consultation to both public and private sector entities
- Monitoring progress and building awareness
- Supporting capacity building in energy efficiency and emissions reduction
The Centre will also help shape Oman’s long-term national strategy for carbon neutrality, while driving collaboration across industries to make real progress on the ground.
Oman’s Push for Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen
Speaking at the event, Eng Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, emphasized that OPES and OSW provide a unified platform to communicate Oman’s sustainable vision.
“Having multiple conferences and activities under one roof allows us to send a unified message to the world: Oman is fully committed to cleaner energy, without compromising its core capabilities in oil and gas production,” he said.
The minister also noted Oman’s significant progress in renewable energy and green hydrogen, including:
- The inauguration of two major renewable energy plants this year, delivering a combined output of over 1,000 megawatts
- The launch of Oman’s first green hydrogen station, powering over 15 vehicles, including Muscat airport taxis
A Platform for Progress
Both OPES and OSW are organized by CONNECT (Oman Exhibitions Organising Company) and hosted by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). Held under the Ministry’s patronage, these events bring together key players in energy, sustainability, and innovation to discuss solutions for securing a greener future.
With the launch of the Net Zero Centre and several landmark clean energy initiatives, Oman is clearly stepping up as a serious player in the global energy transition, striking a balance between sustainability and economic strength.
