Oman to Have a University Medical City

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik  issued a Royal Decree on Wednesday, Feb. 7, which announced the establishment of the University Medical City.

The medical city will have a legal character and financial and administrative autonomy. 

The administration of the Medical City will have to report to the Minister of Health and abide by the regulations of the Royal Decree.

The University Medical City will be established in Muscat and if approved by the board of directors, the medical city will also have other branches established in other governates of Oman. 

The Royal Decree also calls for the transfer of assets, rights, and obligations to the University Medical City from the following institutions:

  • Sultan Qaboos University Hospital   
  • Oman National Centre for Haematology and Marrow Transplantation
  • Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre 

Paramedics, medics, and other staff from the above-mentioned institutions will be transferred to the University Medical City, according to the Royal Decree.

Details about the expected date of establishment of the medical city and other information have not yet been revealed and will be revealed in the future.
