Wadi Dayqah Dam’s Gates to Open on June 11th

The Wadi Dayqah Dam gates will be opened to release 15 million cubic meters of water starting on June 11th, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR).

One of the greatest dams in the Arabian Peninsula, Wadi Dayqah Dam is found in Wadi Dayqah, a region of Quriyat that is 75 kilometres from Muscat.

In 2012, the Dayqah Dam was built to collect rainwater from the surrounding mountains and control the flow of water through the settlements below.

To avert accidents, the ministry urged individuals to stay away from the wadi and follow safety recommendations.

A statement issued by MAFWR said, ‘The ministry will open the Wadi Dayqah Dam to drain about 15mn m3 of water. The dam has a storage capacity of 100mn m3 and a height of 75m.’
